Demons of the Fire Temple

Tact continued to naw on an Arepa he purchased from a Kakariko vendor as he walked over the Death Mountain border. One hand held the morsel, the other in his pocket. The blade of evil's bane was once again strapped to his back. He closed his eyes for a second and was halted by the Gerudo sentry next to the gate.

"What business do you have on Death Mountain?" He asked, spear at the ready. Tact eyed the man up and down. He was a portly fellow, with gnarly teeth.

Tact shrugged and said with a yawn, "Just going on a morning stroll." The gaurd grunted and scowled at him.

"Passage fee is 70 Rupees, boy. Better go ask your mama & papa for an allowance.

Tact let out a whistle. 'Must've not been loved enough as a kid. Poor fat bastard.' he thought. "70 rupees, eh? Those Gorons must be pretty lonely with so few visitors nowadays."

The man snarled, but all of the anger left his eyes as he saw what was held in Tact's hand. "I- Is that an... AREPA?!"

Tact arched an eyebrow, "Um.... Yeah?"

The gaurd snatched the latin delecasy from his hand and inhaled it. He slammed his hand on a button and the gate opened.

"G-go on through!" he said, savoring the cheesy aftertaste.

"Well..." Tact shrugged. It wasn't what he expected, but he would take it. "Thanks, Mister."


... But something was off. He felt like something... someone was about to return.

Beads of sweat trickled down his forehead. He reached for a small canteen of water at his waist, his mouth dry as a desert. Taking a refreshing swig, he looked back to Maximus, treading across the narrow bridge of burnt land surrounded by lava. His entire body felt as if it could melt. His eyes itched, his tongue was rigid, his hair seemed as if it might catch fire any second.

Max finaly caught up to him, as the bridge was too narrow for two people to cross at once. He nodded to him, looking at an old door, a lock on the ground near it seemingly opened ages ago. Being it the biggest door in the temple, it might lead to where they wanted to go: The resting place of the Fire Sage. He pushed a hand to the door, causing it to hum lowly and then shift upward quickly into the cieling. He could've sworn he felt the back of his left hand start to tingle, but he shook the feeling off.

"Well... Let's go." He wiped his brow, walking in.

They came into the center of a circle shaped room, almost giving off the look of a battlefield. Several holes dotted the large circular platform in the center. He looked up, The ceiling not visible. This must have been at the bottom of Death Mountain, maybe 20 or 30 feet underground.

Tact's left hand began to burn, causing him to writhe in pain. He dropped to his knees, but Max did nothing; Time had frozen once more.

"Prepare yourself!" A voice shouted. Tact remembered it instantly, the cloaked man! He opened his eyes, reaching for the Master Sword, but it had disappeared. Standing up, he came face to face with the ominous figure once more.

"Another test has come, Tact. Let us see what you can do, without the Blade of Evil's Bane." He snapped his fingers, and what appeared to be a dancing creature of flame burst from the fumes of the lava, jumping to the man's side. He desintegrated, the creature bounding after Tact in a graceful waltz.

It struck a wisp to his chest, but he lept back, barely dodging it. One of it's flaming limbs extended to his face, but he rolled quickly to the side. Tact recalled a magic spell for ice; It would be the only way to defeat this creature without a weapon. 'What was it..? Eir frieghtus? Blizarrus unum?' He tried to remember, barely dodging the dancer's agile attacks. Finally, he flipped back, drving a hand into the ground.

"Freirus Blizarrum!" He shouted, and ice cooled the flames. A small rock, with one open eyelid, the eyeball glazed over with ice gazed at him. Tac ran to it, kicking it hard and causing it to break.

The man appeared once more. "Well done." He simply said, snapping his fingers once more.

Time had returned again, and the Master Sword returned to Tact's back. He looked around, still unsure of what had just happened, but he let the thought go as the ground began to shake. Lava started to seep through the crusted over floor holes. Jumping back from a geyser, Tact shot a glance to Max. "What just happe--"

An ear-piercing scream shot through the room. A large skeletal form of a dragon shot through one of the geysers, shaking the platform sporadically. It shot fire from it's mouth at Tact and Max, both rolling out of the way, barely missing it's attack. He unsheathed his sword, preparing for a fight.

We walked the mountains innards shredding no mercy upon us, the heat untamed here at its core..
As we crossed the earth made bridge, i speak demolishing the heavy silence between us..
"Bah! Enough of this." he spoke up as if the heat had driven him close to insanity.
The boy looked up at maximus, an odd look of confusion and exhaustion, sweat dwelled upon his forehead. "I know we got off on a bad foot back at the temple, and we haven’t exactly been the best of friends. But I can’t stand squabbling feuds." max shook his head his pale hair in his face, he sleeked it back with the sweat the formed on his face. He looked back down at tact once again as he extended his hand. "How about a do-over?" he paused, as the boy met his hand. "My name is Maximus. A pleasure to meet you." The boy smirked at him shaking his hand kindly. "Hello maximus.. The name is Tact, it’s good to finally meet ya." they let there handshake drop, continuing there walk forward, the spoke about some details in there life. Max told Tact, stories of his many hi-jinks in the city market place, being chased down by the guards. Tact told him of his aimless travels and his run in with Taylken and how they met. We had walked far, the heat immense..
Just then a shudder ran through the volcano, almost instantly the air thickened.
Tact froze where he stood as if in an altered state. The Volcano shuddered as gysers of fire shot up from the ground upwards into the air one came from right in between us i jump out of its way, the fire seemed to just have missed him by luck. "Tact! Move!" he is unresponsive to my screams, as i glance upon his surroundings i notice but another gyser just inches from him this one would surly make toast of him. "Tact get out of the bloody way!" Not a single movement stirs from his body.
The volcano begins to rumble once more the geysers again building up to spit there scolding flames.
Maximus pushes his legs hard against the floor tackling tact out of the way; they crashed to the floor barley missing the geysers fire. Tact is still irresponsive; i stand up something crashing into my mind range like bricks to a puddle. I clutch the handle of my katana firmly, a taste of dead upon his tongue heavy with no mercy. It was getting closer and closer, nothing stopping its momentum.
Tact came awake all of a sudden confused and unsure of his position
"What just happe--" Tact shot Max a glance.
An ear-piercing scream shot through the room. A large skeletal form of a dragon shot through one of the geysers, shaking the platform sporadically, i stretch out my wings in front of us in case of any spare debree. As i lower my wing, we gaze upon this collosus monster its blazing form suspended above us weightlessly.
I ask myself one thing as we stare at this creature in awe;

"Does that thing eat bird?"
